About this site

This is the portfolio website for Allison Griner, a freelance multimedia journalist.

My work has been featured in publications including the Washington PostEsquire, Al Jazeera Magazine, the Toronto Star, the Columbia Journalism Review, the Florida Times-Union and more.

In 2018, my work on behalf of the Global Reporting Centre won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for best news documentary.

I was also a reporter on a large-scale multimedia project that snagged a 2015 National Edward R. Murrow Award and a Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

I am drawn to international issues, human rights reporting, environmental topics and questions of cultural diversity.

My passion for journalism has taken me across the world. In China, my colleagues and I investigated the piles of garbage plaguing the world’s largest population, and I filed a report on China’s online environmentalists for PRI’s Living on Earth. In France, I covered the 2017 presidential elections from the wings of a satirical puppet theatre. And off the shores of the Florida Keys, I rode with spear-wielding divers as they culled invasive lionfish from the tropical reefs.

Along the way, I’ve been humbled by the personal stories shared with me. One woman talked to me about growing up in a Japanese-American internment camp. Another told me of her family’s fight to regain control of her grandfather’s Nazi-looted artwork. And in 2014, I found myself at the scene of a deadly school shooting, talking to survivors.

If you would like to learn more about my work, you may find a drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. There, you’ll find an “About” page, more examples of my work and a contact form, if you’d like to reach out and talk one-on-one. You can also find me on Twitter or Instagram.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my work!
